Emerging Creators Unit
Deadline: Friday, August 11

The Emerging Creators Unit is accepting proposals for original 25-minute performance projects from queer or trans artists age 30 and under (age exceptions may apply – see full description in the link). Proposals can be for one of the following:

  • An individual artist who wishes to create and perform a new work
  • An individual artist who wishes to create and direct a new work to be performed by other artists
  • A collaborative team of up to two creators who wish to collectively create, direct and/or perform a new work.

The 39th Rhubarb Festival
Deadline: Friday, September 15

Canada’s longest running new work festival seeks proposals for new, not previously produced performance projects and theatrical experiments. Rhubarb is a space for imagination and for pushing boundaries: your own, your audiences’, and those of your artistic practice. We are looking for proposals by Artists who seek to explore and expand – Projects that fight the normative, projects that ask big questions, and forms that ask the impossible.

Rhubarb Festival Artistic Interns
Deadline: Friday, September 15

Buddies is seeking two individuals who would be interested in learning about curation, artistic direction, dramaturgy, and new work development to work with Festival Director Mel Hague in the time leading up to the 39th Rhubarb Festival. This is a volunteer position that is created to be malleable to your schedule and will provide invaluable insight into the festival process.

Script Submissions

Buddies in Bad Times is not currently accepting script submissions. If you would like to have your script considered, please send a brief introduction – including plot summary, cast size, and development/production history – along with the playwright’s bio to the following address (email submissions will not be accepted):
