Hot Damn It’s A Queer Slam is the only 2SLGBTQPIA+ Poetry Slam Series in the world. We travel our show to cities all over Southern Ontario and the winner of our circuit gets to travel to Capturing Fire the International Queer Summit & Slam in Washington DC. There is always an open mic and anyone can sign up to be on our stages, no matter if it’s your first time or your zillionith. There will be judges to score this poetry slam but always there is an audience cheering you on. Write about anything under the sun. Read your poetry off a screen or page or have it memorized, it does not matter for competition. Be Brave! We have a wonderful stage. Hosted by Charlie Petch. Mardi Gras beads are available for anyone not wanting to be photographed.
Meet our incredible feature! Janice Jo Lee (she/her), aka Sing Hey, is an award-winning multidisciplinary artist. She is a second generation Korean folk musician, spoken word poet, and theatre artist hailing from Kitchener, on Haldimand Treaty territory. She is passionate about building flourishing communities based in justice and joy through art. Lee is a hard femme queer radical and on stage is known for being disarmingly hilarious, off-the-cuff and fearlessly honest. This year will see the release of Lee’s third studio album “Ancestor Song,” and the Toronto debut of her one-woman musical satire “Will You Be My Friend” at Theatre Passe Muraille Oct-Nov, produced by Green Light Arts.
