My Funny Valentine
January 10 - 21
“An exceptionally beautiful piece of work… simply superb.”
— Vancouver Courier
Zee Zee Theatre (Vancouver)
In February 2008, a fifteen-year-old boy asked another boy in his class to be his valentine. The next day, that boy shot and killed him during first period. My Funny Valentine enters the minds of people on the fringes of a murder that will forever affect them and examines the ripple effect of hatred in a community. Haunting, moving, and at times strangely comedic, My Funny Valentine cracks open the greater humanity of a town trying to heal.

“The characters in My Funny Valentine were compelling and nuanced. Their distances from the action allowed what could have been a straightforward real-life horror story to unfold like a murder mystery, a whydunit where the answer will never make any sense”
“Timely and sensitive, a much-needed dose of social consciousness, good theatre, and reflection.”
-Fun! Fun! Vancouver!
“A play’s premiere is like a birth. My Funny Valentine is a beautiful baby.”
“With My Funny Valentine, Deveau proves himself once again as a playwright on the rise.”
“The most important piece of theatre I’ve seen in the past year.”
