NO STRINGS (ATTACHED)
MARCH 16 - 26

“Charming and disarmingly clever… one of the most interesting and touching performances I’ve seen in a while.”

— G Scene, Brighton UK

A hilarious and touching confessional exploring the romantic lives of queer and trans* folks. One hopeless romantic shares his experience navigating the fast-paced worlds of on-line dating, jealousy, and sexual politics in his search for love.

Fresh off tour with sold out shows in Europe, the USA, Canada and Australia, Sunny Drake brings his funny and tender look at queer and trans* relationships to the Buddies cabaret stage for a special limited engagement.

No Strings (Attached) is a smart, fast-paced take on dating in the age of social media and technology that blends first-person confessional stories with interactive video and sound. It follows Jimmy, a self-confessed romance addict, as he shares his struggle to find a meaningful relationship in a world obsessed with monogamy and unsure of what to keep from mainstream relationship models and what to re-invent. At once personal and political, Jimmy’s romantic tragedies found in his own jealousy and high expectations, as much as in the larger social forces that impact the ways we love each other.

“Charming and disarmingly clever… Drake is one of those rare provocative performers who are uber smart but ultra cosy at heart… one of the most interesting and touching performances I’ve seen in a while. I learned something too, and I loathe learning when I’m out, unless it’s done with subtle talented panache….Mr Drake. I’m a fan.”

-Gscene, Brighton UK

“Theatrically sophisticated and accomplished”

-RealTime Arts Australia

“The mood of the Transgender Seeking was similar to a romantic comedy which filled your heart with hope and love. However it was also so profound and sharp that it had a darkness that does not fit into any romantic comedy… The result is a play you leave with powerful images in your mind which are thoroughly attached to the unforgettable story”

-Melbourne Arts Fashion

“Sunny Drake’s show was a pleasure to behold, a sparkly moment in a life”

-Wotever World, London UK
