Hot Damn It’s a Queer Slam is a 2SLGBTQPIA+ poetry slam series that runs all over Southern Ontario. Sign up for the open mic (music, dance, poetry, stand up etc) or put you name in for the 2 round poetry slam. Winners qualify for our finals in April, the top champ represents us at Verses Festival next year.
Featuring estefania alfonso falcon (they/he/she), also known as yes, is a radical genderfluid queer cubanx migrant, poet, tattoo artist, educator, and activist living living between kiji’buktuk (Halifax) in Mi’kma’ki and Ouentironk (Lake Simcoe), after spending the last five years in the Dish With One Spoon, or many (Toronto).
as and organizer and member of community, they’ve worked with No One Is Illegal – Toronto, the Mining Injustice Solidarity Network, the End Immigration Detention Network, the Spoken Word Canada board, One Mic Educators 2.0, and they are a founding member of the Voices of Today national youth slam festival organizing committee, which they were a core organizer with for four years.
they come to poetry through the cuban traditions of being a dramatic lover and never shutting up. yes’s poetry is a blend of vulnerable rage and self-celebrating humour. they believe in the destruction of the heteropatriarchy, borders, and the capitalist police state. their intention is to learn so loudly that others have to learn too, and they’re stoked for our collective growth.
