Directed by Rico Rodriguez and Jeffrey Canton “Listen Up: We Got Something to Tell You”, is the 24th edition of Queers in Your Ears. Since 1997, QIYE has been creating a safer space to tell LGBTQ2S stories, exploring community and making opportunities for new voices to more fully represent what queerness sounds like! From founders Rico Rodriguez’ intriguing story about entering a Drag Beauty Queen Pageant at the age of 37, Clare Nobbs’ interpretation of the Brownie motto “Lend a Hand”, Jeffrey Canton’s musing on the storytellers who helped him find his queer voice, and Patty Barclay’s story of community and opportunity taken or not, we offer some exciting new stories from long-time QIYE members. This year, QIYE are excited to welcome the extraordinary musical talents of the great Faith Nolan; and we hope to intrigue listeners with some exciting new tellers too! Eden Nameri explores how she deepened her understanding of her queerness through cancer. Jade Pichette takes us to a small restaurant in Ottawa’s Chinatown where a trans youth group held unusual parties and created their own fun safe spaces. Javier Davila offers a story about the relationships we nurture, that hurt or empower us, that we walk away from or that transform us. QIYE has something for everyone and plenty more besides!
