The Wendy Babcock Drag Show is an annual event that honours the legacy of former Osgoode Hall student, Wendy Babcock, who tragically passed away during her third year of law school.
As a s was a dedicated and vocal advocate for sex workers’ rights. In addition to being a lifelong sex work activist, she also played an important role in the R v Bedford case, which ultimately went to the Supreme Court of Canada. Working alongside the late and also much-beloved Professor Alan Young, Wendy testified at the Ontario Superior Court of Justice trial in 2007 and helped to advance the decriminalization of sex work.
The Wendy Babcock drag show is an effort to create a safe and inclusive space in which to challenge gender norms and traditional sexualities, as well as to honour Wendy’s legacy of acceptance, advocacy, and courage.
The Wendy Babcock Drag show is a vibrant part of Osgoode’s tradition. All of the funds raised from the event are donated to the Wendy Babcock Memorial fund or other sex worker advocacy organizations in memory of Wendy, a forever-remembered student of Osgoode Hall Law School.
