Call for Applications: Board of Directors Youth Seat

Buddies in Bad Times Theatre invites applications for our volunteer youth seat on the board of directors.

The board is charged with ensuring that Buddies in Bad Times Theatre is a thriving vital theatre company, both in its internal operations and external position and profile in the broader community. Aside from its legal and fiduciary responsibilities, Buddies in Bad Times Theatre’s board of director’s mission is as follows: to support the company’s mandate and activities through active involvement, and through the provision of professional expertise; to promote the theatre’s interests by nurturing relationships on its behalf, and bringing these interested parties and their resources to the theatre; and to ensure the company’s long-term health by practicing good governance and oversight.

The Buddies board youth seat ensures that young people have a voice in the governance of the organisation and provides an opportunity for a young leader in the community to gain valuable board experience. The term-limit for the youth seat is 2 years. After this term, there is the option to be elected to further serve as a regular board member.

The board of directors is made up of committed volunteers who reflect all aspects of the community’s diversity. Board members have a demonstrated interest in the Buddies in Bad Times Theatre, leadership potential and/or specific skills/knowledge/experience that would be of benefit to the theatre. We actively encourage applications from QPOC, Two Spirited and Trans identified individuals.

Qualifications
  • Be aged under 30
  • Be able to attend board meetings (about 9 per year)
  • Have an interest in governance for the not-for-profit sector and a passion for Buddies in Bad Times Theatre

Special consideration will be given to candidates who have participated in one of Buddies’ youth programs, but this is not a requirement. Please note that if you are a practicing artist who may be engaged by Buddies in any capacity, this will pose a conflict of interest, and unfortunately disqualifies you from a board role.

Application process

Please send a short resume with your relevant experience, contact information, and a short cover letter that answers the following questions:

  • Why are you interested in Buddies in Bad Times Theatre?
  • What is your connection to Buddies?
  • Why do you think you’d be a good member of the board?

Please submit your application by Friday, October 21, 2016, to the attention of Mary Breen, Board Chair, at board@buddiesinbadtimes.com
