NIGE GOUGH SHINE ON FOUNDATION AT THE TORONTO COMMUNITY FOUNDATION

Have the last 10 months made you feel like you’re in a time warp? Has the ‘new normal’ shifted your sense of self and time entirely? Well, QueerCab’s Past // Present // Futures cabaret series is here for you! We are currently seeking submissions for these three events coming up in the spring.

QueerCab is a space for emerging artists and creators at any stage of their practice, to develop skills, take risks, have fun, and experiment with the possibilities of their work. Honoraria will be provided for participating artists.

Application Deadline: March 5th, 2021

If you have questions about the submission, or require assistance with the form, please e-mail Heather Caplap at heather@buddiesinbadtimes.com.

More info on the format of our three QueerCabs, below.

Shadows of the Past

March 31 – April 7

We are looking for shadow and projection based works that ruminate on the past. How do memories, recollections and interpretations of the past shape our present and future? What personal and collective histories linger on? Works can be live performance, time-based or static installations, analogue or digital. Shadows of the Past will be presented in the Buddies cabaret windows over the course of a week.

Transitory Present

April 30 – May 7

The present exists and is gone in the same instant. For this iteration of QueerCab we are looking for micro-works and digital snapshots that engage with transition, fleeting moments, and ephemeral connections. These photo, digital, and video works will be featured in an interactive, online exhibit on April 30th, and will also be accessible via QR codes posted around the exterior of Buddies. Video works should be under 1 minute in length.

Imagined Futures

May 22

What does radical hope for the future look like? Think queer utopias, afrofuturism, and post-capitalist daydreams. For this cabaret we are looking for short works of theatre, dance, performance art, poetry, music, drag, intermedia, etc. that showcase your wishes, hopes and dreams. We are hoping for the event to be as live as possible – we’ll announce more details, dependent upon public health guidelines closer to the date.
