ArtAttack!

ArtAttack! is Buddies’ annual art auction/fundraiser/art party.

Our last edition was November 3, 2023, with an XXX-Files theme, a nod to the Buddies XXX auction that preceded ArtAttack! Hosted by Bruce Dow, with auctioneer Charlene Nero. Our live auction featured work from some of the country’s foremost contemporary artists with guest curators Golboo Amani, Noor Alé, Jordan Browne, and Troy Seidman. Plus, the Tuck Shop offered an astounding collection of artist multiples and limited edition prints, co-curated by Darryl Mabey.

Limited Edition Prints

The Artist Limited Edition Prints have been a favourite at ArtAttack! since it was introduced in 2013. Buddies commissions an artist for an original work, available only at ArtAttack! and prints remain on sale after the event. All proceeds go to support artistic and community programs at Buddies.

A print in four panels by Mitch Duncan. The backgrounds are teal, white, and pink. The four panels show disparate elements that come together more and more. In the final, lower right panl, we see a blue head with a yellow neck, with a small flower overlaid.

2023 Artist Limited Edition Print: Mitch Duncan

This year, in addition to being a beautiful piece in its own right, the Limited Edition Print is a little piece of Buddies’ history.

We asked Mitch Duncan, an emerging Toronto-based artist who created the artwork for our milestone 45th season, to create the limited edition multiple print. Pulling from the imagery and visual language of our season art, Mitch has created a piece that reflects on the artistic process and nods to Buddies’ ongoing commitment to developing new work and supporting queer artists. We hope you love this playful and charming work, Assembly (About Face), as much as we do.
