We are looking for a highly motivated individual, someone who goes above and beyond, someone who thinks outside the box. Most importantly, someone who wants to join the team at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre, Canada’s Home for Queer Culture. Reporting to the Box Office/Front of House Manager, the Assistant Box Office/Front of House Manager will be responsible for managing box office staff, order processing, and overseeing general box office operations at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre.

Established in 1979, Buddies in Bad Times Theatre is a professional Canadian theatre company dedicated to the development and presentation of queer theatre. Over the past 40 years, it has evolved from a small production company into the largest and longest-running queer theatre company in the world. The theatre sits in the heart of Toronto’s Church-Wellesley Village, and its primary constituencies are the city’s queer and arts communities. In addition to being a theatre, Buddies is a popular events venue with regular community and late-night events occurring year-round.

Major Responsibilities:
- Promotes high standards of customer service
- Processes ticket orders
- Assists with financial reconciliations and cash management
- Manages and resolves medium level customer service concerns
- Informs and upholds Box Office policies in alignment with organizational standards
- Assists with hiring, training, and managing part-time staff with the goal of providing excellent customer service
- Oversees and schedules the theatres volunteer program
- Supports the Box Office Manager in the preparation of reports and schedules, as required
- Acts as duty manager in the absence of the Box Office/Front of House Manager and is responsible for delivering a clean, safe, and enjoyable experience for all patrons
- Aware of and delivers accommodations for people with diverse abilities, including compliance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA)
- Communicates a positive attitude, has a sincere interest in the health and wellbeing of the team, colleagues and the company at large, and interacts in a respectful way with all of the above
- Other duties as assigned by the Box Office and Front of House Manager
Skills:
- Equivalent work experience and appreciation for the Arts
- Demonstrated excellence in customer service
- Basic accounting and mathematical skills
- Enjoys dealing with the public and volunteers
- Excellent organizational skills
- Excellent written, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to maintain a calm and cheerful manner under pressure
- Ability to delegate, motivate, and encourage others
- Must be able to multitask and work in a fast paced, deadline oriented environment
- Experience with Theatre Manager and WordPress an asset
