Job Posting: Bar Staff

Position Types: Part-time or full-time availability
Hourly Wage: $17

Responsibilities:

  • Sweeps and mops floor as needed
  • Ensures dishwasher is turned on and functioning 
  • Maintains the cleanliness of all service areas before and after shift, including fridges, cutting boards, tables, ice bins, draft spill tray and sinks
  • Checks and cleans coffee urn and bus bins, as necessary
  • Sets up bar glasses, stocks ice and cuts fruit for garnishes
  • Assists with the setup of the space, as determined by the demands of the event, in cooperation with the Cabaret Technician and/or Front of House team
  • Clears the space at the end of the event by stacking stools on side rails, chairs under the stairs and tables on the stage
  • Takes out garbage and recycling to the designated areas before and after shift
  • Moves the garbage and recycling bins to the road for pick up
  • Counts float and maintains the appropriate amount by balancing the cash out
  • Ensures paperwork (ie. spill/comp sheets) is ready for start of shift
  • Ensures the bar is open one hour prior to the event, unless otherwise stated by Front of House, Cabaret Technician, or the Stage Manager
  • Mixes and serves alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks following standard recipes
  • Collects money for drinks served
  • Determines when a patron has had too much alcohol
  • Checks identification of customers to ensure they meet the minimum drinking age
  • Notifies Bar Manager and/or Assistant Bar Manager of any illegal activity or emergency situations
  • Restocks fridges as necessary
  • Returns full cases of empties to the west hall
  • Takes Z-reading and completes accurate cash out procedures
  • Monitors bar area and ensures that only staff are behind the bar
  • Ensures the bar is never left unattended while patrons are in the building unless the cash registers are off, cabinets, fridges and pantry door are locked shut and the chain is put up
  • Removes alcohol from all public places at 2:45am.
  • Busses all glasses and removes garbage from the cabaret, mezzanine and antechamber 
  • Responsible for securing the theatre once patrons have cleared the building.  Locks all entrances and checks all exterior/interior doors, including dressing rooms and administration office
  • Locks all fridges and liquor cabinets at the end of shift
  • Ensures sound equipment and overhead lights are turned off
  • Checks to see that security cameras are not obstructed
  • Sets alarm upon leaving the building

Skills

  • Equivalent work experience in bartending
  • Great cash handling skills and knowledgeable of laws governing alcohol consumption 
  • Adapts to the environment
  • Outgoing socially, a good listener and energetic
  • Able to work independently
  • Strong Communication skills
  • Good judgement and decision-making skills 
  • Smart Serve certified
  • Able to lift 60lbs
