Established in 1979, Buddies in Bad Times Theatre is a professional Canadian theatre company dedicated to the development and presentation of queer theatre. Over the past 40 years, it has evolved from a small production company into the largest and longest-running queer theatre company in the world. The theatre sits in the heart of Toronto’s Church-Wellesley Village, and its primary constituencies are the city’s queer and arts communities. In addition to being a theatre, Buddies is a popular events venue with regular community and late-night events occurring year-round.

Duties
- Monitors the condition of equipment including lighting, sound, and rigging equipment; arranges for the repair and replacement within budgetary constraints; performs preventive maintenance on equipment
- Determines the necessary technical support, such as lighting, sound, staging, and special needs, necessary for events and performances presented at the theatre in advance of production dates in conjunction with the production manager
- Advises the Head of Production and/or designers, on the technical specifications, costs and usage of technical equipment for productions
- Supervises the installation of approved technical designs in conjunction with the Head of Production
- Attends Technical set up and rehearsals, in order to supervise and assist in the technical aspects of mounting a production
- Participates in hiring and training and supervising of full-time technical staff in conjunction with the Head of Production
- Purchases, leases, and/or borrows equipment as needed, within specified budgetary limits in conjunction with the production manager
- Attends production meetings
- Oversees safety aspects of the working environment and complies with all relevant legislation
- Remains available and responsive to requests for technical advice and assistance
- Orders specialized supplies for productions and/or venues
- Manages technical repairs to the venue

- Equivalent work experience in the technical aspects of production
- Able to work independently
- Strong Communication skills
- Appreciation for the design process

- Ability to interpret design plans
- Ability to redraft construction drawings (Vectorworks)
- Strong supervisory skills
- Financially responsible
- Good computer skills
- Experience in Health & Safety
- Ability to delegate, motivate and encourage others
- Prepared to problem solve and report to the Head of Production
