DONATING TO BUDDIES
“Buddies is the beating heart and artistic soul of the queer community in Toronto, I am so grateful for this safe and special space.”
-Justin Haley, a donor to Buddies in Bad Times
DONATEEmpowering Artists, Elevating Queer Voices, Inspiring a Better World
Buddies in Bad Times is the largest and longest-running queer theatre in the world, and the only reason we got here is our incredible community of supporters. Working with donors like you, we are able to elevate new voices and forms of expression and give queer artists and audiences a place to call home.
Through our CanadaHelps profile, you can make a donation to one of two streams: our General fund, which supports all the work that Buddies does, or The Calvin Cox Memorial Fund for Emerging Artists, which supports emerging artists at Buddies via the Queer Emerging Artist Awards and the Emerging Creators Unit.
For as little as $5 a month, you can play an instrumental role in bringing vital queer arts and community programming to our city and beyond. As we celebrate our 45th anniversary this season, we continue to reimagine what this vital queer theatre can be for its communities. With the energy of the anniversary, and new artistic leadership in place, your support is more important than ever.
This season, we’re aiming to grow our community of donors by signing up 45 new monthly donors, and we’re almost halfway there! In a few easy steps on our website, you can set up an ongoing gift that will sustain and grow your favourite program, and ensure a bright future for Buddies. Thank you, from all of us, for supporting Buddies. You are what makes everything possible.
CONNECTING COMMUNITIES
Buddies is a space where queer communities can come together. From our intergenerational programming, to late nights at Tallulah’s, to discounted community rentals, your support helps
to keep this vibrant and vital queer meeting place
open to all.
EXPANDING OUR REACH
As the world’s largest and longest-running queer theatre, Buddies is uniquely positioned to share queer stories across Canada and beyond. Your support helps bring Buddies productions like Kiinalik: These Sharp Tools to stages around the
world, and allows us to bring in groundbreaking
queer works from across the country.
CREATING INCLUSIVE QUEER SPACES
Our donors play a key role in ensuring that everything that happens at Buddies can be enjoyed by our entire community by providing affordable and free tickets for folks in need, supporting
our year-round program of ASL-interpreted and
relaxed performances, and helping to create more
opportunities for Deaf and disabled artists.
PUTTING QUEER STORIES ON STAGE
By supporting our Mainstage and Festival programming, you will be providing opportunities for hundreds of queer artists to share their work on our stage and ensuring they have the time, supports, and resources they need to succeed.
ELEVATING QUEER VOICES
Be part of the creation of original queer performance by supporting our artist and new work development programs. Your donation will fund artist residencies and workshops, as well as training programs like our Emerging Creators Unit and Emerging Company-in-Residence.
