Last night marked the close of another epic and successful year for Rhubarb. Another year that leaves me invigorated and inspired. I want to extend a massive thank you and congratulations to the artists, crew, intern team, Buddies staff, board, advisory committee, community partners, and volunteers of this 35th Rhubarb! I am so proud of what we have accomplished and experienced together; this year wouldn’t have been the same without you.
The past year has involved considering next steps on both an artistic and personal level. As some of you already know, I have announced that this will be my last year working on Rhubarb so that I may take time to focus on other projects. I am passing the torch to another Festival Director who will be announced soon. They are an individual with exciting ideas and dedication towards new work development. I look forward to seeing what their energy and expertise brings to Buddies and the future of the festival.
Rhubarb is a place where artists are given the opportunity to take risks, think big, and develop their creative voices. This is what Buddies and Rhubarb has enabled me to do as curator too.
I want to give a special thanks to my colleagues and dear friends. To Brendan Healy who invited me to my position within Rhubarb, who has given me freedom to experiment and has encouraged me to develop my curatorial vision from day one; to the past Festival Directors who were inspiring and generous with their insight and advice; to the Buddies management, communications, front of house, and production team, and to my assistant and intern team over the past 4 years: tremendous thanks for your openness, enthusiasm, and hard work. You helped make the seemingly impossible a reality time and time again.
