Blood Count: a Billy Strayhorn Centennial
June 21
June 21 at 8pm // The Chamber // Tickets $12 -$20
presented by The Queer Songbook Orchestra
Pulling back the curtain on one of the most profound musical partnerships of the 20th century, the Queer Songbook Orchestra is taking a look at the artistry and integrity of the late Billy Strayhorn on the centennial of his birth. A black, openly gay man, and indispensable collaborator to Duke Ellington, Strayhorn’s life is a tale of the courage and compromises of a 1940s era queer life, and his music stands today amongst the finest in the jazz canon.
The Queer Songbook Orchestra is a Toronto based chamber ensemble of top queer and allied musicians, compiling and reinterpreting music that has shaped the LGBTQ community.
